What's good about the new, lighter version:
Material removed: More material was milled out in the spoke area, resulting in less rotating mass. This allows the motor to rev more freely. This is a principle also seen in other "lightened" gears
Slimmer aluminum hub: Unnecessary aluminum was omitted without compromising stability at the seat
Despite this, it's stable: The load on the slot car spur gear is concentrated on the teeth, not in the center. Therefore, it can be thinned without immediately breaking
Cleanly machined: For smooth running and low noise
